Two marine watercolors in the manner of Thomas Sewell Robins (English, 1810 - 1880), no signature viewed, past Christie's stickers verso (January 30, 2008, Sale 1963, Lot 253), pencil inscription to dust cover verso reads "according to penciled remark on back of previous frame/ 'Thomas Sewell Robins, exhibited from 1829 - 1879....'/ bought by PRW from antique store across from P. J. Clarkes, 1960, 55th & 3rd Ave", both depict naval warships, one with two French ships flanking and firing upon a trapped British ship with floating mast and surviving figures in foreground, second painting depicts ships moored in a line, with rowboat filled with seamen in distance, storm approaching at left, both with newer mats and frames under glass, "John M. Wiseman, Gilder and Picture Framer, Newport R.I." paper label applied verso, both have been previously removed from frame, wear consistent with age including toning and waving of paper, sold as is, ss: 9" h. x 11" w. [VERBAL PROVENANCE: Purchased in the 1960's by Consigner's parents and owned by descent.]
