William Merrit Post, oil on board, "Farm Corner", signed LR, framed, ss. 8 1/2" h. x 10" w. [William Merrit Post began his career studying in New York with the relatively unknown artist Samuel Frost Johnson, then moving on to study with James Carroll Beckwith and the Art Students League. Later he worked with landscape painter Hugh Bolton Jones. The two focused on landscapes, with a particular interest in streams. Post kept studios both in New York and in West Morris, now Bantum, Connecticut, where he relocated in 1912. His work was exhibited at the National Academy of Design, the Philadephia Academy of Fine Arts, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.]
