World War I German P.O.W. (Prisoner Of War) trench art, brass and copper constructed into a shoe holding pin cushion, possibly shell casing, signed on bottom with maker and location "P.O.W. N. 681, K. Steinike, Fort McPherson," expected surface wear including dent to tip of toe, wear to felt on cushion and surface scratching, 4 1/2" l. [Fort McPherson is located in Atlanta, GA. During World War I, the fort was utilized as a P.O.W. camp for members of the Imperial German Navy. There was a man by the name of Karl Steinike who was an enlisted member of the Imperial German Navy during World War I.]
