World War II military memorabilia from Pacific Theater, c. 1942-1945, mostly contained in tweed cardboard suitcase: military equipment: U.S. Army Signal Corps radio receiver BC-733-D stamped 1943, serial number 21730, 7" h. x 14 1/4" w. x 4 34" d., WWI-era (recycled) compass and pair binoculars, two army issue hats, wristband and pocket watches, leather belt, dog tag, and army medals; ephemera: personal correspondence, restricted special and general army orders, black and white photographs and postcards of Americans and Japanese, army enrollment and discharge instruction booklets; and souvenirs: Japanese dispatch bag, cinch-top pocket stamped with Japanese characters, piece of bamboo, pair decorative sandals, and pink silk doily from Desert Training Camp, expected wear throughout especially to leather and metal items. [Personal effects and correspondence linked to Corporal Kenneth Townsend formerly of Carmel, NY, who enlisted in the U.S. Army in April 1942 and later served as an amphibian tractor driver. Townsend was honorably discharged in 1945 after received good conduct medals and the Purple Heart.]
