Paintings, clocks, important documents, as well as items being sold to benefit the Slater Museum, including a weathervane, are being offered at Winter Associates auction on January 31st, 2022, starting at 5:30 pm.

One of two standout fine tall clocks from local households is a David Wood Federal cherry clock circa 1800 – 1815. Wood was a successful American clockmaker from Newburyport Massachusetts. Woods’ high-end craftsmanship can be seen in the handsome checkered string inlay on the hood and body and stylized bouquet in the arch, the case houses an eight-day brass time and strike movement. The presale estimate for this clock is $5000- $7000. Also from this consignor, family portraits in oil, identifying two women from the Crary family. The second tall clock is American Chippendale, c. 1780, possibly from Pennsylvania, cherry and walnut case.

Among the paintings and prints are a Tait, "Snowed In - After the Blizzard" or alternatively "Uncle Dan Catlin with His Dog, Scotty", 1878. Purchased early to mid-20th C. by an Ohio family and owned through descent. Prints include a Renoir lithograph of his son, Claude, and American prints from Kerr Eby and John Taylor Adams as well as several examples of iconic NYC views.

From the Warren C. Lane Estate, important documents include letters describing the Revolutionary War, one by John Jay mentioning John Paul Jones and a letter by Lord Stirling mentioning the Marquis de Lafayette, reflect his interest in American history.

Over 35 lots of silver feature fine English and Continental silver from a West Hartford home. A large Portuguese tea service and an ornate 18th C. London Epergne are standouts. Early American silver in a generous assortment offer Tiffany and Gorham hollow ware, flatware as well as coins.

Two works by Connecticut cabinet makers include a mahogany slant lid desk by Nathan Margolis, dated 1917, and a writing arm Windsor by F.E. Banning of Hadlyme, CT, as well as oriental rugs, antique maps, gold jewelry, garden, and military items
