May 24th Auction Auction Starting at 5:30 pm

Contents from three Connecticut homes provide the majority of the items in the eclectic mix that Winter Associates’ auction will feature at their May 24th auction. An estate from Lakeville, a small town in Western Connecticut, had a good selection of mostly contemporary artwork that includes a work by Radcliffe Bailey (b. 1968) an African American artist with international recognition. The large print is titled “Until I die / Georgia Trees and the Upper Room 1997”. An interesting conversation with Radcliffe Bailey and Tyler Green is available at https://mediahub.unl.edu/media/14949. From the same household signed works by Chuck Close, Georges Braque, Joan Miro and Pablo Picasso will be offered. A surprising find in the same home was an Italian micro mosaic (9” h. x 7 ¼” w.) from the 19th C. depicting two women.

A complimentary assortment of fine prints and paintings from a West Hartford estate includes eight etchings by Elyse A. Lord (1885-1971) a British artist fascinated by the Orient and known for her deco influenced portrayal of Asian scenes. Asian decorative accessories from this home will also be offered as will other late 19th C. / early 20th C. artwork by Warren Sheppard, Hamilton Hamilton, Moise Kisling, etc.

Carefully collected to furnish a 1720’s home in Glastonbury Connecticut, that was once an active Bed and Breakfast, are a varied assortment of early American furnishings as well as high end reproductions. Chairs, tavern tables, gateleg tables, fireplace accessories, treenware, etc., will be offered including three Eldred Wheeler pieces.

Gold and silver in the sale range from gem mounted chalices to a seven-piece sterling Reed and Barton tea service with sterling tray; a rose gold ruby and diamond lady’s watch and David Yurman Wheaton pave diamond 18K ring. Also displayed in the showcases for this sale will be a varied assortment of well-executed miniature portraits on ivory.

Continental flavor in the sale will provided Biedermeyer dining table and chairs, a porcelain mounted lady’s desk, a bronze bull sculpture after Isidore Bonheur.
