Asian Ranma or door frame, Japanese or Chinese, three parts, gilded and painted wood, intricately carved and pierced panels with branch, flower and fruit motif, meandering key pattern ends, red painted border, donated 1919, loss of gilt, checking, expected wear, assembled: 68" h. x 74 1/4" w. [Provenance: Chinese-style carved frieze with peonies and vine design. Gilt with lacquer-like red paint. Adapted to fit a doorway in the home of a prominent New York art dealer and collector.
