Tall clock, American, c. 1810, cherry with pine secondary, face signed "Hugh Ely", cherry case with string inlay, high arch in broken pediment, terminating discs with ebony scallop inlay, center urn finial (as is), rests on shaped, string inlaid projecting support, missing two side plinths and assumed finials, arched glazed door, four turned columnettes (the rear left one is replaced), trunk with elliptical string inlay frieze over arched door with contrasting string oval inlay, incut case corners with stringing, base with oval contrasting inlay, ebony stringing above French feet, clock's works: enameled metal face inscribed "Hugh Ely", moon phase, seconds and calendar, time and strike, Arabic numerals, oval floral medallions in rust colored ground spandrels, cast iron weights, iron rod and brass bob pendulum, brass works, some restoration, possibly at back board, some veneer loss, base side panel loose, edge damaged on right side of base, 85" h. x 18" w. x 9 1/2" d. [NOTE: Hugh Ely was an early clockmaker in New Hope, PA and then Trenton, NJ.
