TEXTILES: Three 19th C. copperplate handkerchiefs, including: "Effect of Principle / Behold the Man", c. 1800, cotton, blue on white glazed chintz, with a design of George Washington with his right arm extended, under swagged drapery, with the text of his farewell speech printed on the left side, and an encomium on the right side, below is an American eagle with shield, a sailing ship with the motto, "Commercial Union," and on the lower right is "The British Lion", right edge is selvage, other edges are narrow hemmed, good condition, chintz retains its shine, brown foxing scattered throughout, 11 1/2 " l. x 11 1/2" w.; "Primary Lessons No. 7" with four vignettes along top and columns of poetry below, minor toning and staining; and a sampler style titled "Capital and Small Letters" with vignettes of schoolchildren around perimeter, holes throughout, 9 3/4" h. x 11 7/8" w., all pieces sold as is.
