Description:

RILEY WHITING, WINCHESTER, CT - 30-hour wooden movement shelf clock, ca. 1832. Riley Whiting (1785-1835) ran a large clock manufacturing operation on the Mad River just north of present-day Winsted, CT. He went was into shelf clock production about 1829 and until his death while on a trip to Illinois in 1835. This clock is a nice example of the 3/4 size case with fully carved Empire case with eagle splat and animal paw feet. The case is refinished, but in good condition with minor flaws. The tablet in the door is modern, but similar to those found in Whiting shelf clocks. The painted wood dial is period and in good condition with only slight loss.
